Mr. Wehr has been active as a judge for national and international competitions, including the 2002 Santander International Piano Competition in Spain, the National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Auditions in 1999, 2001 and 2003, the 2005 and 2007 Beethoven Sonata Competition in Memphis, the Heide Hermanns Competition in Westport, Connecticut in 1990, 1998, 2002 and 2006, the Louisiana Music Teachers Association Competition in 2000, the Colorado Federation of Music Clubs State Competition annually from 1982-86, Music Teachers National Association Eastern Division Competitions in 2007 (High School) and 2008 (College), and the Duquesne Young Artist Competition in 1994, 2003 and 2005.
Since 1998, he has been National Artistic Adviser to the NFMC Student Auditions.
In 2006, David Allen Wehr was appointed the Jack W. Geltz Distinguished Piano Chair at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From 2001-2006, Wehr served as Duquesne's first Hillman Distinguished Professor.
From 1994-2002, he was Artist-in-Residence at Ouachita University in Arkansas.
Wehr has given master classes at the Interlochen Arts Academy, Northern Illinois University, Rollins College, Nicholls State University, Ball State University, Hardin-Simmons University, Austin Peay State University, Idaho State University, Houston High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Western Wyoming College, University of Kansas, Bob Jones University, Pennsylvania Governors School for the Arts, Northwest State University of Louisiana, Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association, Colorado State University, Connecticut State Music Teachers Association, Ohio University and University of Denver.
In 2007, Mr. Wehr presented the high school master class (on Beethoven sonatas) at the International Collaborative Conference jointly presented by Music Teachers National Association and the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers in Toronto, Canada.
Mr. Wehr is a Life Member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, a National Arts Associate (honorary) of Sigma Alpha Iota, a member of Music Teachers National Association, and a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honor society.
